How did I so quickly forget how exhausting it is to work full time, keep the house clean and in order, take care of the dog, cook dinner, pack/prep lunches, etc.?!
Things are a little different, and I'm sure they'll calm down eventually, but I've never had a 40 minute commute before, so that's a big change. Also, I've never bought a house, so this is new as well. As I adjust to my new job, the stress will subside, but I still have my commute and we're putting an offer on the house Thursday (meeting with the realtor tomorrow to sign paperwork). So the house stress will still be here, but hopefully the process will go smoothly.
I've always been good about getting to bed around 10:30-11 to get in my 8 hours, but last night we were watching the FSU/Miama game until after midnight, so that also took something out of me today. Sleep is so important. I love sleep.
I know already that keeping up with workouts is going to be tough after a long day at work, but I need to do it as soon as I get home so I can then relax for the night.
How do you hold yourself accountable to working out after a long day at work? Do you do it right away, or wait until after dinner?
I think I'd have more energy at night after dinner, but I'm more likely to just do it as soon as I get home. Hmmm

If I work out after work, I pretty much HAVE TO do it right after I get home...if I wait till after dinner, I will never ever do it.
ReplyDeletewhen I work out after work, I do it immediately! Otherwise it's never gonna happen!
ReplyDeleteI go to the gym immediately after work. If I go home first then I want to eat dinner, watch tv, hang out with the hubby, etc. and I end up not working out.
ReplyDeleteOn Tue & Thu nights, I work a 2nd job, so working out will not happen, no matter how much I say it will, I realize it is just too unrealistic.
ReplyDeleteIf I do not take those days as rest days I either:
1-Wake up super duper early (4AM) to get a work out in. (I promise myself Starbucks on those days) -or-
2-Work out between the 2 jobs (I have been hating this more and more, and have been opting for option 1 more.
On other nights, when I dont work, I just make it apart of my nightly routine. I think of it as something pre-scheduled, and that makes it easier not to try and skip.
That's the same debate I have everyday. I actually try to workout during lunch because we have a gym at work, otherwise I am starving by the time I get home, exercise and find time to cook.
ReplyDeleteI blame commutes, they SUCK!
andrew wakes up before work to workout... so now that i have my temp job, i wake up with him and go to the gym (or go walking). in the past (when i too had a 40 min commute), i always brought my workout clothes with me to work and changed there then went to the gym. home was not an option after work because i would FIND things to do vs. going to the gym! sure the commute + workout after work = later dinner, but if it's important you'll readjust your evening schedule... or wake up early (to either work out or get any "duties" taken care of). good luck!
ReplyDeleteHaving a long commute can make things very challenging.
ReplyDeleteI've actually never had a commute shorter than 40 minutes, lol. It's all very relative I guess.
Now that I have a 1 hour 15 minute commute I have given up running during the week but increased my DVD usage with Banish Fat Boost Metablism and No More Trouble Zones.
I literally have to change as soon as I get home or I know I will get carried away cooking or get too comfy on the couch.
Best of luck with your new job and the offer on the house- it's an exciting time but things will die down eventually so enjoy this crazy time.
I have to go straight from work..I bring my clothes with me because if I go home, all bets are off! I'm so much more likely to go if it's directly after work!
ReplyDeleteI am a morning exerciser myself. If I had to do it at the end of a long day, I'd fail miserably.
ReplyDeleteI always loved my commute to work. It was a time for me to be alone with nothing to do but drive. I could mentally prepare myself for the day and then on the way home I could decompress.
Now that I'm talking about it, I miss my commute, actually!
Glad your first day went well! Once you've done your commute a few times, you will get used to it. It's a good time to call friends, think, pray, etc. I always have to work out right when I get home from work, otherwise I won't do it!
ReplyDeleteIf I'm doing gym time, I go straight there, not even home after work! It's too hard to get going again after settling down at home. A long commute is the pits - that's 1 hour and 20 minutes that you used to have to do things in! You will eventually adjust but it will definitely take time!
ReplyDeleteyou'll have to try a few different things out before getting your new routine down. maybe try getting up earlier and workout before your long commute? at least when you get home, your workout is already done for the day and you can enjoy your nite.
ReplyDeleteI have to work out in the morning. Have to. By the time that I get home there are too many excuses. If I do not get out of bed in the morning, then I make myself go to the gym at lunch. Is that a possibility for you?
ReplyDeleteI go straight from work to the gym, if I go home, it will never happen. On some mornings I do make it to the gym before work but that also requires a lot of planning. Hope you get your routine going.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the house stuff! I'm building a home and the stress of building, getting it insured, and figuring out all the paperwork with my lender is really, really stressing me out. I'm still figuring out how to deal, but I know it will be worth it!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was single and didn't have any evening commitments, I just did it the minute I got home from work. Now? I HAVE to do it in the morning or it doesn't get done. Period.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had to give up my afternoon workouts yet...but I know it's coming with a family, etc.
ReplyDeleteRight now, I work out immediately after work -- if I went home and sat down, that would be the end of me! I go straight to the gym, and DO IT. :)
I'm not looking forward to the day I have to get up at 4am to get it in BEFORE work. LOL
I must go directly from work to the gym and I change at work! I have to have my gym clothes on before I leave. I can't go home and then workout, it never happens for me.
ReplyDeleteRight after work. If I don't it won't happen. My commute is around an hour each way. I take a snack to work to eat on the commute home, then I have my running clothes at the front door. I change, grab my water bottle and head right back out. It might be extreme, but if I get upstairs to the kitchen, the computer or a book, then I wont go.
ReplyDeleteI work out before I go home. I also have a long commute (45-50 minutes), but I'm a member of a gym in the town I work in, so I just make sure to pack my workout clothes and drop by the gym before I go home.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the new job and new house. My bf and I just bought a house in May and it was somewhat stressful, but mostly fun. Haha, what's been stressful has been fixing things up. Hope everything goes well tomorrow! :)
