Update

I've had a good amount of emails and comments lately asking if i really, really and quitting this blog. I don't know... it's up in the air.

In other news, I'm moving to Jacksonville, FL. I announced it on my cooking blog about a week ago, but I realize not everyone reads that. We're headed down 2 weeks from today, and it's all so surreal. At first I was excited, but now that I actually have to leave my job, pack my house, and be super far from my family, I'm less than excited.
I know there will be great new opportunity for me down there, but I'm really happy here and I like to take the 'if it's not broke don't fix it' approach. Surprise, surprise - I don't do change!

So anyway, my biggest concerns about moving are sitting at home all day alone until I find a job and being bored which leads to eating for me. Also, the summers are awfully hot, so running is going to be hard... but on the bright side, I can run on the beach! And all of the apartment complexes have pools (not lap pools, but I can lounge with books there)

Anyone live in the Jacksonville area and know of some good running trails or parks?

So to wrap this up, right now I'm not really in a motivate the masses kind of mood... more of a poor me kind of mood... I freakin hate moving... like the physical act of moving, packing, having no cable for a few days, driving 14 hours.... ugh. So perhaps when I get to Florida and things are going well, I'll feel like blogging and being inspirational again... I've got a few ideas and goals and such that I'm going to start working on :)

And also, I normally don't call out other blogs because I really do read all of yours, but if you're looking for a similar blog with tons of inspiration about an awesome girl, check out www.balanceformere.blogspot.com, she started running just this year, is kicking butt, is super fit, healthy, motivational, and an all around nice and wonderful girl!
Meredith- hope you don't mind me linking you, I know you'll probably read this :)

  1. Moving is scary, especially when you don't know the area. I moved to Jacksonville a year ago. We liked it. Don't know about any running trails though. I am sure there are plenty. But it is SO Hot. I see people running and wonder how they do it! We just moved two weeks ago to Fernandina Beach, 30 minutes north of Jax. It's a slower pace of living, more money for your house, and better schools for the children. Good luck on your move. If you need any advice don't hesitate to ask.

  2. Ash, you don't need to motivate every single post! We come here to read about your life and to support you just as much as we come for education/inspiration. We read because we love ya! If nothing else, I'm sure you will garner tons of support and sympathetic ears as you go through this massive life change.

Keep your head up, girlie! The best is yet to come! And if I may throw out a cliche....it's always darkest right before the dawn!

  4. I know this should be on your other blog, but I do know a restaurant you have to go to after you get settled in! Tento Churrascaria in JAX Beach is so good! Go on a Thursday night so you can eat half price and get a free drink!(JJ will have to pay full price). Enjoy your move!! So jealous you will be so close to the beach!

  5. Aw! I am almost in tears. Thank you for the sweet shout-out. You are so kind!

I think you are absolutely right to focus on yourself and your family right now. You are going through a major transition. Take care of yourself. WHEN you return (I predict you will once your life gets back to "normal") your readers will return and be excited for updates. You are an inspiration!

  6. I'm in Jacksonville. A lot of people run the River Walk downtown. Depending on what area of town you are headed to, that might work.

    Welcome to the area!

  8. I don't like change either! I am a creature of habit! I am sure you will be ok, and will get back that motivation you once had :) As a fellow Floridian (Miami) Welcome! It's a great state!

  9. I just wanted to say that I know what you're going through. I moved to Pittsburgh with my husband 2 years ago so he could attend grad school. I'd lived in Texas for 23 years and all of my family is still there. It's hard, but it gets better. And things normalize pretty quickly. Don't get me wrong - I miss my family ALOT, but that's why we have airplanes! Good luck with your move - at least you're going somewhere that doesn't get snow! :)

  10. Good luck with your move. I used to live in Jax, and loved it. But I know realize that Jax is nothing really special. You can run/walk in downtown or beach... What part of jax are you moving to? I'll be there this coming weekend to visit my family! :) Have fun! :) Hope you'll love it!

  13. Hang in there girl. Moves can be so hard. I left my family in Pennsylvania to move to Canada with my hubby. I'll keep you in my prayers. I'm sure that you'll soon meet some awesome girls that will become friends and you'll hopefully soon be loving it. And, as far as the eating goes...at least you know your trigger and can be really mindful about boredom eating. You can do it girl!! Praying for your success!!

  14. Best wishes on your move. I have been a lurker on your blog. I hate that I haven't posted a comment before. I hate that you think people aren't reading. We are and it has been wonderful to see your transformation. Thank you for being authentic and letting us in for awhile.

I know doing a blog must be a huge commitment of time. I hope that you will continue, but it you don't I understand.

    Thanks!

  16. Hey I just happened to click here from Devon's blog. I moved to Jax from NJ three years ago, and it's definitely a change, but if you want to keep running, you'll do it! Right now I run at 5am when it's the coolest, which is still upper 70s or low 80s, but at least the sun isn't baking your brain!

There are lots of places that people run in Jax, but since it's so big, it's hard to say what would suit you most.

    Good luck with the move!
