Boo!
I'm not surprised, I pretty much cleaned up the Easter candy. This week I'll really focus on getting a -2 to compensate. The weather is getting warmer and nicer, and I've found that as much as strength training helps get cuts and muscle, running is what really drops the weight for me.
I need to work on this tendency I have to pig out at holidays. I always am in the mindset of 'I'm on vacation' so I just eat and eat and eat all day long. I know most people gain at the holidays, but I seem to gain, and then take the time before the next holiday to get that weight off, and it's just this awful cycle from Thanksgiving to my birthday (May 14). My real losses come in the summer -which is good because that's where we're headed! I'm sure when I get to my maintenance weight it won't be as bad, but right now it's just like, ugh, can I please get to the 160's!?
Anyway...April's 5K is tomorrow! It's the YMCA Spring Run, and my Dad is here to run with me! Yesterday we took a run on the trail together, and he helped me with my form (I cross my arms when I run rather than hold them straight). He said that will help propel me forward, like a train...It's funny b/c when he runs, I think he looks kind of funny. Oh well, if it makes me faster... He also thinks I'll PR tomorrow, but this course is pretty hilly, so I'm not so sure.
I'm thinking that since I'm only doing the 5k at 8am, while dad does the 10k at 9am, I'll run a few laps around the park, which is 1 mile, so I get in some more mileage.
How did everyone else do with their weigh-in? Hope you were able to resist the Easter baskets better than me!

I also gained this week +.4. Boo! We were eating Easter leftovers this week. I also started shredding and it is hard to know how much to eat since I don't know how much I am actually burning.
ReplyDeleteWe will make up for it next week though!
-.6.
ReplyDeleteI'll take it. Its 2 lbs in 3 (4?) weeks.
As much as we all love the holidays, I believe we all can agree that overeating on them is proberly a huge downfault. Why is that we allow our selves to do this on holidays? Totally baffles the mind. Good luck with the 5k this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI lost 1.6 pounds this week which is what my goal was so I was happy.
Even with my surgery I have managed to lose 7 pounds total! I was just wondering if there are going to be a 10 pound badge made? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI didn't go home for easter this year so I didn't have to think about "giving in". I used to be really good at staying in control while I was losing but now that I'm maintaining, I tend to splurge more...I need to work on that.
ReplyDelete1 lb is no big deal though...it could be water weight! I also think everyone tends to gain more in the winter v. the summer, not just because of the holidays but also because we're much more sedentary. I walk SO much more in the summer...I imagine that, along with my half marathon training, will help me to lose the 3-4 lb I regained over the course of this year.
Let me second the motion that Ashlee ate us out of house and home during Easter! While I am totally proud of you Ash, and think that you're doing a great job, I totally picked up on you eating A LOT! I'm not being negative, just wanted to say that you're doing a great job and I understand the need to binge everyone once in a while; but you pigged out last weekend!
ReplyDeleteI came across your blog a couple days ago and want to tell you that it is inspiring. I started my own blog and am doing the 20/20 challenge on my own.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work!!
Purvi
I gained too +1 :(
ReplyDeleteI am blaming the candy.
Its all gone now though, and i have a fridge stocked full of healthy foods.
Hopefully next week we will both lose 2lbs and get back on track!
I wanted to weigh in and say I love your blog! Your dad is right, crossing your arms when you run is not good - it leads to all sorts of problems (shoulders, hips, etc) so definitely fix it early :)
ReplyDeleteI was surprised to see I lost 1.5 lbs! It's the last week before my half marathon and I was sure I'd gain. I guess taper agrees with me? So that's a total of 2.5 pounds and 3 weeks. Not bad.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck on your 5k!
ReplyDeleteI maintained my weight this week. I thought I'd gain, especially since I was dehydrated from the stomach flu when I weighed last week! I also ate a lot of Easter candy, but did pretty well at a buffet brunch on Sunday. Good luck on your run tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI lost 1.6 - I'm thrilled! I'm really just proud of myself for keeping up with this for 4 weeks. The weight loss is a bonus :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your 5K!
I lost 2.8 lbs this week for a total of 11 lbs overall!!! Im so excited!!! I've never lost this much weight in my life. Working out is paying off :p
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your 5K this weekend. You're so lucky you have your Dad to guide you on these little things. I wish I could fit some kind of running clinic into my schedule because I'm sure I'm making a zillion form errors.
ReplyDeleteI was down over 1 lb, and brought my total loss to 5.4!!! However, last Saturday (although its not weigh in day, I was down a total of 6.4..it must have been Sunday's easter lunch!)
ReplyDeleteI think I lost about .4 (although I don't write down the partial pounds so it might be closer to maintaining. I was thrilled because I totally went overboard on chocolate this week. My boss got me a basket full of candy for easter, OY.
ReplyDeleteI WAS proud of myself that I did much better in general home over the weekend, though. Usually when I go home I do pig out, but my mom knows I'm trying to lose weight so we cooked a healthy dinner in and avoided the snacking.
Kristine, in reference to your comment above - I'm sure it wasn't your intention, but it really comes across as judgmental and discouraging. I guess I'm just not sure what positive contribution that sort of comment is supposed to make to Ash or this blog? Maybe I'm overly sensitive, but it hurt to read and made me cringe a bit.
ReplyDeleteAsh, I love your honesty and positive attitude about your little holiday setback - I'm sure many others had small setbacks last week, and your outlook sets such a good example of not beating yourself up and just moving forward. I think occasional setbacks are just part of the process, and what matters in the long run is how you handle them. Good luck with your upcoming race!
I'm up .6, I feel your pain. But it is my first gain since starting WW three months ago, and, like you, I cleaned up on Easter candy (along with a BOX of Vaccarro's cookies my IL's gave me with my Bday gift).
ReplyDeleteI'm still down 5.4 since starting the challenge, so I'm hoping to still make the 20 lbs!
I have to agree with Sarah on what Kristine said. I know Ash is your sister and all, but I don't think it is your place to point out how she "pigged out" over Easter. She pointed that out for herself and didn't need you to do it for her. I agree that your comment did come across as very negative and judgmental and as a sister, you should be positive by saying things like "Oh well, you'll make up for it by losing 2 this week." After all, holidays are a part of life and in reality there are times that we are going to eat more than others. The key is to compensate for those times by eating healthfully in your day-to-day life.
ReplyDeletethanks for your inspiration!

-.4, not bad considering all the easter craziness!
ReplyDeletehope the 5k is FUN!
ReplyDeleteand seriously. I have to chastise you and tell you not to fret at all :)
tiny gain. TINY GAIN!

Miz.
I'm down another 2 pounds, for 9 pounds total on the 20/20 Challenge. Woo hoo!
ReplyDeleteHave a great 5K! I think it's awesome that you're running with your dad.
Misha

ReplyDeleteI maintained my weight this week - I don't feel bad because I'm just happy to be still working out and losing inches! :)
