Happy Valentine's Day!!!
This morning I decided to not go for a run. It's the first Sunday in a long, long time that I didn't run. Between yesterday's 9 miles, last night's drinking, and the way I've been feeling, I decided to just sleep. It felt so good.
I don't know what it is, but after I go for runs longer than 6 miles, my stomach hurts all day long, I have no appetite, and I just feel ill. I'm trying to make sure I'm hydrated... I don't know what it is. But all day yesterday I just did not feel well. And then today it's been more of the same. Any insight?
I haven't yet decided if I'm going to go for 10 on Saturday. I would like to, but I don't know. This week Lou and I are planning on running Tuesday and Thursday, so I'm planning on strength training Monday and Wednesday (No More Trouble Zones). I think my metabolism is a mess right now. I binge eat, then I don't eat for a day, I'm not hungry, then I'm starving. I just can't figure it out! I'm trying to only eat when I'm hungry, but yesterday I only had 200 calories from when I woke up until 7:30pm, that's not good. Ahhh, I want to do these long runs, and I enjoy the challenge, but I dont like the way my body is reacting!
I am going to try to stay on more of an eating schedule next weekend and see if that helps. I'm not going to binge eat Friday night (see previous post - triscuit incident), so that should keep me 'normal' next weekend.
Anyway....
Today has been good, but weird! I'm so used to being so busy and having tons to do, but since I ran around like a crazy person yesterday, I had all day to relax. Weird!
I slept until 9:30, then we went to church. After church we went to lunch at Olive Garden. JJ wanted to do something for Valentine's Day, and I'm a big fan of the soup, salad and breadsticks lunch!
Did you know you can ask for light Italian dressing on the side? That's what I always get. I had 2 servings of salad, 2 bowls of Pasta e Fagioli and 1 breadstick. A bigger lunch than usual, but it's a holiday and I was actually really hungry!
Last night's dinner party was SO fun! I had Lou and his girlfriend Gina (and her daughter Kyra) over and then Whitney and Christian, who is Lou's best friend. Whitney has quickly become one of my good friends here, and it was their first time coming over to our home!
I made a dinner of salmon, chicken, risotto and spinach (all will be on the blog this week) and then we had chocolate fondue for dessert. I had 2 glasses of wine, which was great, but I had them right away on an empty stomach, so it kind of hit me really fast!
I gave JJ his Valentine's Day present last night since I thought he might want to use it while the guys were here. It was....
....a bottle of Jefferson's Kentucky Straight Bourbon! (JJ is short for Jefferson Jackson). JJ is working on collecting and tasting as many kinds of Kentucky Bourbon as possible, and I found this one last weekend for him! Don't you just love when you find the perfect gift for someone???
So here's a photo of us from last night! We're so Valentine's color coordinated (and it was just by chance!)
So after lunch, I put on my sweats and parked on the couch. The dogs were relaxing with me, of course, so I decided to read to them. This was one of my favorite books as a child, and JJ found it in hardcover and got it for me for Christmas! It's about a weiner dog named Pretzel who is really long and winds himself into a pretzel. My family even named our first dog Pretzel after this book!
For dinner tonight, I made a turkey meatloaf because JJ's most favorite meal is meatloaf. I made a heart because I'm cutesy like that!
Hope you all had a LOVEly Valentine's Day!
I'm excited for this week. No big plans, but I want to get my eating and working out back on track. Get my meals back to normal, and really get some good strength training in. Hopefully tomorrow night I'll have a post that talks about how great No More Trouble Zones went!
I love that you made a heart-shaped meatloaf. JJ is a lucky man!
ReplyDeleteUgh... I have been on that roller coaster! It wasn't from running, but from an INTENSE strength workout with a personal trainer. I actually threw up when I got outside the gym (gross, I know) and then I was starving so I scarfed down a bunch of rice at home, then the next day I hardly ate anything. I don't know if it was the shock of the workout or what, but it threw my body into a whack for a few days. Eventually I did what you mentioned and ate on a schedule that was "normal" whether I felt like it or not. Eventually I leveled out. Good luck! :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week and good luck with "No More Trouble Zones"!
ReplyDeleteOh how cute are you guy! Oh and good job on the gift too!
ReplyDeleteYou guys should come up to KY where I live - bourbon trails and tours are everywhere!!!
ReplyDeleteAw, cute - so glad that you had a good weekend (minus the tricut assasination) - you looked super cute at your dinner party :)
ReplyDeleteThe dinner party sounds great and I love that heart meatloaf-cute!
ReplyDeleteMy eating has been high and low (with more high days) too and it's not linked to runs. I have a hard time staying focused on healthy eating right now. I begin each day with great intentions and then mess up. My mental focus is out of sort.
ReplyDeleteVery cute!
ReplyDeleteAre you taking any Gu's or Shot blocks, any calorie/electrolyte replacements, on runs?
I feel really off if I do not have any, on 5-6+ mile runs.
Have you thought about your electrolytes? When I did the Avon 2-day walk last year (goal is to walk 39.3 miles over 2 days - 26.2 on Saturday and 13.1 on Sunday) I drank water all day the first day, but felt 'off' once I made it to wellness village. But being that I had been drinking water the entire day, I figured there was no way I was dehydrated. They offered Gatorade at all of the stops, but I'm not a big Gatorade fan so I didn't drink any.
ReplyDeleteAs they were wrapping my feet the next morning (I had some MASSIVE blisters), I almost passed out on them. That's when they started asking me about electrolytes. I had done myself NO service by avoiding the Gatorade all day. I had a bottle and immediately felt 10X better. I was only able to do ~3 miles that second day rather than the 13.1 because I had jacked my system up...
Maybe try some of the G2 (much lower in calories) and see if that helps on the days you do your long run?
Just trying to help! I'm not an expert by any means...
I know what you mean about your stomach hurting. anytime I get over like or 8 my stomach hurts for the rest of the day.
ReplyDeleteAlso I feel you on the low and high days. Somedays I eat very little til dinner (usually I "make up" for it then. Not healthy!) sometimes it's the whole day! If you have any insight on either of these, I'd love to hear them!
Love your blog! Glad you had a good valentines day!
