Jillian Michaels' Banish Fat Boost Metabolism Review

WOW! For anyone who has graduated from the Shred series, and wants to move on to something more challenging.... TRY THIS!!! It's like the shred on steriods. First off, it's about an hour long... so if you want a longer workout than the shred's 20 minutes, or you're tired of doing 2 levels back to back, this is for you! Here are some photos from the DVD...(scroll to the bottom)

Jill starts with a warm up, then goes through about 7 circuits with 5-6 moves in each circut, and repeats the moves in each circuit, so they're roughly 7 minutes each. There are no weights in this workout, and no lunges, but there are many kickboxing moves instead.
The circuits aren't necessarily strength, cardio, abs, but instead are a combination of all 3, which is what makes it pretty rough! There are many of the same squat and cardio moves from the shred series, but with slight modifications.

This is an extremely hard workout, it's long and grueling, so I would definitely make sure I could do 2 shred levels back to back before trying this one out. Jillian doesn't really offer up modified versions of the moves, but she does offer tougher versions (like skaters where you touch your toes each time you slide).

I am super proud of myself for making it through the whole workout with no rests, because you really do move, and crunch, and kick, and jump... it's really true to it's name!

Now, the good news - I have an extreme love/hate relationship with Comcast, right now being one of the 'love' moments, because I tried this workout on demand! It's available right now, and for a while because there is no end date listed. Jillian also has a problem zones no more workout on demand, so I'll be reviewing that one tomorrow.
I am so excited I found this workout because as much as I love the shred, I did want to have something a little more challening, and something different. After I try out touble zones no more tomorrow, I'm sure I'll integrate the 3 videos into a rotation.

  1. I agree. These new workouts are tough and I love it!

I have done each DVD twice so far, but plan on doing them more often. I was worn out the first time I did the DVDs. But they made me feel amazing and I swear I see results after just 2 times per DVD. Maybe I'm imagining things, but I love these DVDs!

  4. P.S. Jillian Michaels is my hero.

Just in case you didn't know, she has a podcast that you can download to your iPod thru iTunes, and it's great! It's basically about fitness, health, and she also has a time where she answers caller's questions, you know, Jillian-type things. You can just go to iTunes and search KFI AM 640 and hopefully it should come up.

It's really been a motivator for me. You can also go here:

to listen to the podcasts w/o downloading them. Just thought you would like to know. They are a great resource.

P.S. If she comes to your 100 lbs. party, you must invite me.

    Hope

  6. I'm so glad you mentioned these - I didn't know she had two new ones out! I need to get through the shred (5lbs, then 8lbs, then stacked workouts) first, and then I'll let myself get these, but they are definitely on the Amazon wish list!

You're very motivating - my goal is to do the Shred L1 when I get home tonight at 9pm because I haven't had any activity today. Hopefully I don't wimp out when the time comes!

  7. I am loving both of these workout as well. Also, the Exercise TV feature has had the shred 1 &2 on there as well, but I finally broke down and ordered it so I could experience 3. haha.

Are you watching Biggest Loser right now? I like how they can't use the gym and Jillian is freaking out about being creative, yet using your own body is all she does in the Boost your Metabolism video (aside for the hand weights)... it's just funny watching her complain about it, when she is making tons of money off her new dvd which is essentially the same thing ...and i am off my soap box. :P

  9. Both of my dvds arrived Tuesday afternoon and I got through the warm-up and the first circuit before I decided that it was going to be too difficult the first time around with my little guy running around me & trying to crawl between my legs every time there was room ... but so far I LOVE it!!! Kinda funny since I gave up on Shred after one try. I think maybe I'm just more determined now.

  10. Have you tried the Shape Up Front/Back or the Maximize Full Frontal/Back in Action? I've been thinking of buying them on Amazon, but not if they are easier or the same as the Shred.

  11. Thanks for the rec! I love trying new workout videos, especially Jillian, because she's not cheesy. And that totally does NOT look like her on the cover! Wow!

  12. Ash, thanks for trying these two videos out. I have been doing the shred (I originally started last August) and definitely need a new DVD. Even though I love the shred, it is not hard enough for me anymore and I am doing it with 8lb weights! I was debating on getting this DVD last weekend but held off. I am definitely going out to get it today. Thanks again!
    P.S. I heart Jillian too!

  13. Because of you, my best friend and I bought these and HOLY COW. They are hard. Every move she did in her other videos are here and all together? I'm so sore. Thanks Ash, you're a great inspiration and you've turned me on to a world of DVDs that are so unlike what I thought workout DVDs would be.
