I wish I could have cake for lunch everyday...

Today has been much different from any normal day.
My friend Whitney has been telling me for months that we need to go to French Pantry, a local lunch place. She, and so many other people have raved about it, so I asked my boss if I could take a long lunch, and he said sure. So today Whitney and I went there. I'll blog about the restaurant on my Bite Club blog, but I'll just talk about it a bit here.
They have a menu of soup, salads, sandwiches and tons of bread and desserts. Whitney said they have bread at the table, so I decided to order a salad because I didn't want to have carb overload. She also insisted we order dessert, so I decided to go really light with lunch. I think next time I go, I'll plan on taking dessert to go so I can get a sandwich, or something with bread.
I ordered the Thai Chicken Salad, which is always a safe bet for me. I didn't eat any of the crunchy fried things on top, and left a little of the chicken. I almost got the eggplant and red pepper bruschetta salad, but I didn't want the bread. I wish I had gotten it... but oh well, I'm sure I'll be back!
We shared the Strawberry Shortcake, which was amazing. I strategically positioned it so Whit got the top layer (more icing), so I ate the bottom 2 layers of cake and only 1 layer of icing that was in the middle (the icing is where most of the fat and calories are when you eat layer cake). It was delicious though, the strawberry puree was delicious and fresh.
I am really happy with the way I controlled myself at lunch. I had more than usual, and even some cake, but I was very careful to not overeat.

Today Lou and I weren't able to for our run because he got a nosebleed that lasted an hour, and had to go to the doctor to have it caturized (I think that's what he said).
So it actually worked out ok because there's something very bad going on with my ankle. The ankle that I've broken twice and sprained numerous times is just killing me. JJ did an exam and said it's really swollen and probably a strained muscle from running the bridges and running so much... so tonight I'm doing ice and stim, and tomorrow I'm going to take off so I can at least attempt 10 on Saturday. I'm upset that I didn't get a workout in today, but I can't injure myself worse.

For dinner tonight, I made one of JJ's favorites, pulled BBQ chicken, baked sweet potatoes and oven fried okra. It was delicious, simple and easy.
I also made a batch of mocha cupcakes for work tomorrow. I was going to make them for Valentine's Day last Friday, but could not find my cupcake liners! So I made them for tomorrow.

I'm really excited for tomorrow night, I'm having 3 friends come over and we're going to bake and ice some cookies for a Bachelorette party. We going to have wine and pizza, so it should be fun!

JJ said that he'll write a guest post on electrolytes this weekend, so I'll try to get it up sometime next week.

Hope you have a wonderful Friday!

  1. Good - I can review my own knowledge on electrolytes!! :)

Rest the ankle - you definitely don't want to make it worse and then try to do the 10!

  3. I love the balance you show here... you go out to eat (and even order dessert!), but you don't go overboard and you're very aware of everything you put in your mouth. To me, that is the ultimate sign of someone who has it together food-wise. I did read about triscut-gate :-), but I think overall you're such a good example of where I hope to be!
