Dear Diary

For the next few months, until I lose 20 lbs., I am going to be doing the food journal thing. It's a pain, but it works wonders at keeping things in check. In the past, I used one that I bought at Barnes and Noble, but I'm cheap, and made one in excel! I printed these 2 to a regular page, landscape setting, front and back, and made a book of 60 days. I'll print them as long as I need to... sigh. I know, I'm being overly dramatic! I just have a hard time remembering to fill it out. And then I actually am faced with what I'm eating. Every little morsel of food, right there. It works though, really does!
If you want the excel file, shoot me an email and I'll get it to you (ashisfit @ gmail {dot} com)

So randomly, I got an email today with my finisher's certificate from the Half Marathon! Now I feel like I need to go buy a color ink cartridge so I can print it! There are 6 versions (different colors, signed by different princesses)

Carrying on with the randomness that was today....
Here's dinner! I call it Farmer's Market Salad. When I was there sunday, it was 5 baskets for $10, so I got beets and acorn squash. I also had some tofu that needed to be used, and some spinach. This salad was born. I also had some tomato soup and bread.

So I've been giving some real thought to joining the Y here. Running outside is my favorite, but I don't want to get burned out. I'd like to try taking some classes, like spinning and yoga. I've only ever taken yoga before at the Y, and it was a long time ago. I also really want to have a pool to go to this summer. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. I can only do so many Jillian DVD's. Also, the Y is between home and work, so I'd go right from work and attend the 5:30 classes. I'm going to take a tour on Saturday and see what I think... but I have a feeling this is what I need right now. I still want to run, and do a little bit of strength training at home, but classes and the ability to use some cardio machines sounds great right now. And the pool, did I mention the pool??

So yeah, that's about it for tonight.... it's been such a long week at work already, is it Friday?!
I was invited to go drink some green beer after work tomorrow... but I think I'll pass this year...

  1. You have such discipline to commit to writing down everything for 60 days! I try but am not that good at it, but you are right, it really does work.

I love running outside too, but having the option of classes is a really good mix in your routine - especially if you find one or two a week you really like and go to every week!

  2. Congrats on passing on the beer tomorrow! And good luck tracking your calories! I have about 20-25lbs to lose too so I share your pain, but I'm doing it with WW but it's still tracking. :)

I have to know, which princess' signature are you going to print for your Disney half-marathon run! :)

  3. Hey Ash! I'm not sure if I've ever commented here, but I love seeing your posts pop up in my Reader, especially since my husband and I are thinking of moving from Gainesville to Jacksonville this summer (if we can both get jobs there!).

Anyway, I totally feel you on getting burnt out on exercise. I swear I have exercise ADD, I always have to switch it up! My husband and I are currently doing P90X and we are loving it. There's 3 days of different strength training, 2 days of different kinds of cardio and 1 day of yoga. It's hard to get burned out when there's so much variety! (I also think it'd be a great supplemental workout to add in to runs, additional yoga, etc.).

Anyway, I'm actually currently hosting a giveaway for some beachbody workout DVDs on my blog right now, so if you're interested you should enter - 4 chances to win at least 1 new workout DVD! :)

    Have a great night!

  5. Ashlee, I continue to be so impressed with your willpower! Do you have any extra for me? ;-)

Also, I have a friend that is a member of the Y in Jacksonville. And she LOVES it. She goes to the one near Gate and JT Butler Blvd. Apparently it's new-ish and has all kinds of classes and equipment. She couldn't say enough about it. Don't know if that helps but I thought I'd pass on the good review!

  6. I love the certificate! Different colors for different princesses - super cute! My wish someday is to take part in this same half marathon!

Good luck with tracking your calories. I try to do it everyday, but sometimes it does get to be a bit much. But, it works!

  7. Ash,

I ABSOLUTELY hate keeping a food journal. It just seems to be such a time waster, but I'm right there with ya, I'm trying to keep one. Good luck!

    Hope

  8. I know writing in a food journal works..I've tried it and then stopped - too time consuming. But good for you! That is great commitment!

    The certificates are awesome :-)

You are doing so well! I ran W1D2 of C25K and I feel great. You are my inspiration!

  9. Ou, I hear ya - I totally passed on the green beer today as well - it was a downer, but as I sit here now, I'm glad I did it. I feel better knowing that I stuck to plan today and only ate the calories I planned to.

I hate the calorie tracking thing as well, but it works.... it's the only thing that works for me....

Thanks for the support by the way :)

  10. I'm counting calories again too :( I'm using the Lose It app on the iPhone which I love, but it's just a pain to actually record every little thing! And my oh my do the calories add up!

I joined the Y last week and positively love it! I go on my lunch break to get it out of the way for the day-I say go for it!
